Porto re-sign defender Marcano from Roma

Ivan Marcano has returned to Porto just one season after leaving for Serie A side Roma.

Marcano left Porto in May 2018 on a free transfer following four years with the Primeira Liga team, signing a three-year contract with the Giallorossi.

However, the centre-back managed just 13 appearances across all competitions in 2018-19, and has now returned to Portugal, with Roma receiving a €3million fee.

The 32-year-old has agreed a four-year deal with Porto  who sold defender Felipe to Atletico Madrid earlier in the off-season keeping him at Estadio do Dragao until 2023.

Starting with the hosts, throwing away the lead over in Scotland last week in their first-leg meeting, there is no doubt that Rijeka will know they were lucky to have left with something to show for their troubles. Nakamura going nowhere says Strachan

Celtic manager Gordon Strachan is adamant that midfielder Shunsuke Nakamura is not on the brink of a return home to Japan.

Reports from Japan have suggested that Yokohama Marinos, for whom Nakamura made his professional debut in 1997, are keen to bring the 30-year-old playmaker back in January ahead of the start of the 2009 J-League season.

But Strachan, speaking in the build-up to Celtic s Scottish League Cup quarter-final tie away to Kilmarnock on Wednesday, said: It is the same statement as on Friday, the same position.

Nobody has mentioned anything to me and unless anyone tells me anything different to my face then I will refer you to Friday s statement.

I had a long conversation with Naka on Thursday and he never said a thing about that.

Luiz linked with shock Chelsea return

Chelsea are close to re-signing David Luiz from Paris Saint Germain, .

The Blues sold the Brazil international to the Ligue 1 giants just two years ago and has featured in all three of their games so far this season.

However, he looks set to seal a dramatic return to Stamford Bridge as new manager Antonio Conte looks to strengthen his back-line ahead of the transfer window closes.

In his first spell with Chelsea, Luiz racked up one hundred and forty-three appearances in all competitions, scoring twelve goals in a three-and-a-half year period.

Internationally, he has been capped fifty-five times for his country, scoring three goals and was part of the squad that attended the 2014 World Cup finals in his own country.

Wood: Everton won´t sell Stones

Everton director John Wood is adamant Chelsea target John Stones will not be sold before the transfer window closes on September 1.

Premier League champions Chelsea have seen bids rejected by Everton as the Merseyside club attempt to keep hold of the 22-year-old England international centre-back.

And Everton reiterated their stance after Stones produced another impressive display in Sunday s 2-0 loss at home to Manchester City, with Wood stating chairman Bill Kenwright wants to keep him.

I won t sell him, Bill won t sell him, because there aren t many days to go, Wood said.

Stones has made 47 Premier League appearances since moving to Goodison Park from Barnsley in 2013-14.

However, Aubameyang, who has scored 15 goals in all competitions this season, is adamant he wants to help Arsenal return to the top of English football under new head coach Mikel Arteta.

Upamecano not ready to replace Alaba at Bayern, says Ballack

David Alaba could well be on his way out at Bayern Munich but Michael Ballack does not believe Dayot Upamecano is ready to replace him.

Versatile defender Alaba will be out of contract at the Allianz Arena at the end of June and has been heavily linked with a move to Real Madrid.

Bayern have been tipped to bring in Upamecano should the Austria international opt to leave, with the RB Leipzig centre-back reportedly available for €42million.

Prior to Saturday s Bundesliga games, Upamecano had been involved in more clean sheets (seven to four) and made more tackles (22 to 14), recoveries (149 to 110), blocks (11 to nine) and clearances (41 to 38) than Alaba in the top flight this season.

While he has contested significantly more duels than Alaba (134 to 79)…

Jurgen Klopp plays down early talk of Liverpool’s four-trophy bid

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has been quick to play down early talk of another quadruple bid after booking their place in the Carabao Cup final.

The Reds were chasing four trophies two years ago when they beat Chelsea – who they will again face in next month’s final – at Wembley.

In that season Klopp’s side played every match they were eligible for but finished with only a domestic cup double after being pipped to the Premier League title on the last day by Manchester City and losing to Real Madrid in the Champions League final.

This time around they again have their sights on a four-trophy haul, sitting top of the Premier League having reached the last 16 of the Europa League and face Championship opponents Norwich in the FA Cup on Sunday.

Boehly keen for Chelsea to follow Red Bull and Man City model

Chelsea owner Todd Boehly has detailed his plan to install a multi-club model with Chelsea, highlighting the success that Red Bull and Manchester City have had with the formula.

The Blues boss financed a significant spending spree in the transfer window after taking over from Roman Abramovich, then making a big call last week to axe Thomas Tuchel and bring in Graham Potter from Brighton and Hove Albion.

Boehly s rebuild is not done yet, though, with reports indicating the club are looking to bring in Luis Campos as their sporting director, which would see the highly-rated transfer guru snatched from his advisor role with French champions Paris Saint-Germain.

In the long-term, more clubs could join the Chelsea family as Boehly has made it clear he wants to esta…
